Game info Cloud9 vs Copenhagen Flames

Cloud9 and Copenhagen Flames will compete in the quarterfinals of the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown 2023 Europe on Wednesday, March 29th. After finishing in 2nd place in the ESL Pro League Season 17 last week, Cloud9 has risen to the number 7 position in the world and is the heavy favorite to win this tournament. On the other hand, Copenhagen Flames will try to deliver their first major performance in a relevant championship since their new lineup was formed. All matches in the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown 2023 will be played in a MD3 format (best of three maps). The match is scheduled to take place at 17:30 UTC.

The recent performance of Cloud9

Cloud9 comes into their debut in the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown 2023 Europe after a strong performance in their last tournament. Last month, they began their campaign in the ESL Pro League Season 17. In this tournament, they confirmed victories in all of their group stage matches and advanced directly to the quarterfinals after finishing in first place in the initial phase. In the final phase, which was played last week, the team came from behind to beat MOUZ by two maps to one in the quarterfinals, defeated ENCE again by two maps to one in a come-from-behind victory, and finally played the grand final against the powerful FaZe Clan. In the title match, which was played in a MD5 (best of five maps), Cloud9 began at a disadvantage of two maps and were unable to make a comeback, winning only one map in the series and losing by a score of 3-1.

However, it is worth noting that the last major campaign carried out by the Russian team before the ESL Pro League Season 17 was in the Rio de Janeiro Major in late 2022, where they managed to reach the playoffs of the tournament. At the beginning of this year, they had not yet performed well on the servers, where for example they had a shameful performance in their first participation in a 'Tier S' competition of the year. In this tournament in question, they traveled to Poland to compete in the IEM Katowice, where they only advanced from the initial phase (Play-In) and had a terrible performance in the main stage, not winning a single map against their opponents (IHC Esports and Natus Vincere).

The recent performance of Copenhagen Flames

On the other hand, Copenhagen Flames comes into their debut in the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown 2023 Europe as their first appearance in a 'Tier S' competition of the season. Although it is a relatively unknown team in the international scene, Copenhagen Flames is currently the 4th best team in Denmark and is considered the 45th best team in the world according to the prestigious HLTV ranking. Most of the members of the lineup also have great experience in the professional scene, with names like Asger "Farlig" Jensen and Johannes "b0RUP" Borup standing out, as they have already played for the two biggest organizations in the country (Astralis and Heroic). The other three members (Raalz, TMB, and Birdfromsky) also have international experience, although they do not have the same experience in relevant tournaments as the first two mentioned.

This season, despite not having yet competed in 'Tier S' competitions with their current lineup, the team frequently competes in 'Tier A' tournaments and faces extremely technically qualified organizations. In their most recent performances, they participated in the Elisa Invitational Winter 2023, where they finished in second place in a tournament where they defeated the powerful BIG in the semifinals by 2-1, but were defeated in the grand final against GamerLegion by 0-2. They also played in the BetBoom Playlist Urbanistic 2023, but did not perform well and were eliminated in the initial phase of the tournament. The last time they played on the servers, they won the Pelaajat Nordic Masters Spring 2023, which secured their participation in the current tournament.

Cloud9 look like a strong team, but I think they are not destined to achieve high achievements. In fact, their only win at a major tournament happened in the online era, when the teams were in a precarious position and then the Gambits got lucky.
